GEGHARKUNIK REGION

GEGHARKUNIK — Gegharkunik is one of the largest provinces of Armenia, home to the country’s blue jewel — Lake Sevan.
The presence of numerous ancient sites proves that Gegharkunik has been inhabited for several millennia before our era.

ANCIENT SITES — Lchashen (2nd millennium BC) — here, ancient carts and wheels were discovered, considered among the oldest preserved in the world.
Many nations only introduced the concepts of the wheel and the cart centuries later.
During the Bronze Age, Lchashen thrived as a developed society.
Discoveries in other settlements around the Sevan basin also testify to this ancient civilization, including the archaeological sites in the Vardenis Mountains, the ancient settlements near Artsvanist, the Mets Masrik burial ground, the Tsaver (or Tsavar) necropolises, and the ancient necropolis of Noratus.
