SYUNIK REGION

SYUNIK — Fortress of the Armenian Highlands, Homeland of Heroes
At the crossroads of north and south, east and west, lies Armenia, with its western and eastern regions. At the heart of the Armenian Highland stands Syunik. The name comes from the word syun — meaning pillar, support, and protector. Syunik is not only Armenia’s southern gateway, but also a pillar of the Christian world.
The province stretches across the southern part of the country, encircled by towering mountain ranges, deep gorges, and lush valleys. It has long been a center of mighty noble houses, culture, and spirituality. Syunik embodies the endurance of the Armenian people, their longing for freedom, and their creative spirit. For centuries, this land has been a battlefield, giving rise to heroes and sages, fortresses and monasteries, science and spiritual wisdom.
Every stone and shrub in Syunik holds a story or legend.
