WELCOME TO YEREVAN

Yerevan is the capital of the Republic of Armenia, located on the Armenian Highlands. In 2025, the city celebrates its 2807th anniversary, counted from the founding of the fortress of Erebuni.

ARIN BERD, also known as EREBUNI
In 1950, archaeological excavations revealed a cuneiform inscription, which reads:

"I, Argishti I, son of Menua, founded this city and named it Erebuni."

In the heart of modern Yerevan — in the Shengavit administrative district — excavations that began in 1924 and continue to this day confirm that a developed urban settlement existed in this area as early as the 4th millennium BCE. It was established along the Hrazdan River. Artifacts such as women’s jewelry, residential structures, and furniture testify to urban life. This thriving cultural center of its era became known as the Shengavit Culture.

Thus, we can affirm that the history of urban life in Yerevan began long before 782 BCE — dating back to the 4th millennium BCE.

Despite its ancient roots (Shengavit, the Tushpa fortress, Erebuni, and Arin Berd), Yerevan breathes the spirit of the 21st century. Science and the arts are thriving. Beside ancient streets rise modern buildings and entertainment venues.
Yerevan is considered one of the safest cities in the world, where locals and visitors alike can quench their thirst at beautifully sculpted public drinking fountains. The water is fresh and sweet — just like the hearts of its people.
